What this looks like day to day

Therapeutic recreation is support with a purpose behind it. The outing is the vehicle, but the real work is confidence, fitness, social skills and the sense that the week has something in it worth looking forward to.

Sessions can be one-on-one or in a small group. Groups are great for connection and for the participants who thrive on company. One-on-one suits people who need a quieter pace, more assistance, or a specific goal to work on.

Everything is planned around the person. If crowds are difficult, we go early. If a beach day is the highlight of the month, we build towards it. Progress here often shows up as a participant suggesting the next outing themselves.

Who this service suits

  • Participants with capacity-building goals around community participation.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to join a group?

Not at all. Plenty of participants prefer one-on-one sessions, and some do a mix of both depending on the activity.

Who pays for entry fees and meals?

Participants cover their own costs for things like entry fees, meals and activities. We will always tell you the expected cost before an outing.

Can you provide transport?

Yes. Transport to and from activities can be included as part of the support.

What if I cannot manage a full day out?

Sessions are as long or as short as suits you. A comfortable hour is worth far more than a long day that leaves you exhausted.

Ready to talk it through?

We have availability to assist new participants working towards their goals. A quick chat costs nothing.
